Pregnenolone
Pregnenolone is a hormone produced by the adrenal glands, and is the first hormone synthesized directly from cholesterol. It, along with DHEA, sits atop what is known as the hormonal cascade. All other steroid hormones are created from pregnenolone and DHEA such as progesterone, testosterone, and estrogen. Therefore, it is extremely important to maintain proper pregnenolone levels within the body to ensure that an individual does not become deficient in any of the aforementioned hormones.
Since the supporting tissues of the brain make pregnenolone, it can directly stimulate and calm the brain. It activates the neuroreceptors, which take up glutamine, a substance that stimulates the brain. Pregnenolone seems to calm the brain by activating GABA receptors. By maintaining proper levels of pregnenolone within the body, an individual can sustain optimal cognitive ability as well reduce or improve certain side effects of aging.
BENEFITS OF PREGNENOLONE may include but are not limited to:
- Essential to the Development of other Important Hormones
- Improved Mood
- Improved Psychomotor Performance, especially in the face of fatigue
